A new Trojan was released on May 10th that has the potential to infect many computers. Make sure you update your antivirus software to ward off any potential attack. The virus brings up a window and looks like it is running a virus scan. Clicking on any part of this graphic will invite the virus to your computer. Your best defense is to immediately turn off your computer. After rebooting, run a virus scan from your antivirus software to remove the threat.

Systems Affected: Windows 98, Windows 95, Windows XP, Windows Me, Windows Vista, Windows NT, Windows Server 2003, Windows 2000

Trojan.FakeAV!gen55 is a heuristic detection that may include members of the Trojan.FakeAV family of threats.

Trojan.FakeAV is a detection for Trojan horse programs that intentionally misrepresent the security status of a computer. These programs attempt to convince the user to purchase software in order to remove non-existent malware or security risks from the computer. The user is continually prompted to pay for the software using a credit card. Some programs employ tactics designed to annoy or disrupt the activities of the user until the software is purchased.
